I was induced using this with my first child. It was awful ... for me anyway. I had the first one place on Sunday night... no real change ... had another one in the morning (Monday)... by lunch I was making slowwwww progress. Had my water broke around noon... my baby was born at 1023 that night. LONGGGG and drawn out.
With my second child my water broke naturally... they then started Pitocin (which I didn't have the first time around) and within a few hours the baby was here.
Granted the fast labor was with my second child but I think I was "ready" at that time... the Cervidil was just so long and drawn out. I would ask for the "Pit" and go with that. Much quicker.

If this is your 1st baby, then cervidil is a good choice because starting with pitocin only is usually unsuccessful. Cervidil is used to relax the cervix to open it for the baby to pass through. Pitocin acts like the hormone oxytocin that your body releases to cause contractions. You really don't want to be having contractions without having an opened and relaxed cervix because that would be very uncomfortable. After your 1st baby, the cervix dilates much quicker on its own, and starting with pitocin might be an option if you are already 2 or 3 centimeters dilated.

i dont know what they used on me, but it worked, though if they gave me anything for pain the contractions quit so i had to do it with no meds, ouch, 12 hrs of pains 3 min apart, i was unconscious between pains most of the time.
