Ok I'm not sayin that ebay does not have some good deals!! But do you know how easy it is to have friends bid on your product to up the price ,, creating an artifical value!! Many of shady tricks on ebay is what you need to watch out for!

I think its because the average consumer is too lazy to look for lower prices online and spend hours comparing. It's all psychology. I believe that if people think that because it's on an auction it should be "cheaper" and therefore they are impulsively bidding on something. the average consumer doesn't have time to compare, either that or they aren't that bright. Ebay is something that was heavily advertised during christmas and so people believe you can get bargains.

You have lots of good choices to buy on eBay, mostly are brand new and slightly used that have a very great deals! As long as you know what you need and you know what item you are looking for and you can even try to ask the Seller to get more discounted and a little help or advice for your satisfaction. Some Seller they will get rid of their Brand New stuff and put them on eBay with a low price, so that's where you can get the Best Deal!!!

I never think eBay is a great deal value wise, but I do get stuff from eBay as my last resource for the items I couldn't find anywhere else, means I'm ok buying used item that is no longer in the market (for example an old CD from Antonela).

i bought something new from ebay at 50% of the price in the cheapest store. I call that a deal.

The problem with your question is that it is a grose generalisation. Some things you get in a street store are a bargain. Some things are a rip off. Some things you get from ebay are a bargain. Some things are a rip off. It is up to the shopper to discern the bargain.

SOME things from Ebay are a bargain. Making a judgement that ALL things from ebay are a rip off is your choice. Just don't shop there.

the thing is auctions are a good way to bring in more than value take this for example you tell people you have a great car bidding starts at 200 every one bids no as the bid keeps going up people think sweet i won i got a deal because they are tricked into thinking its a bargain it goes back simple rules of supply and demand and the haves and have nots you want it i got it but i make you think its a deal so you know its a deal

Some things on Ebay ARE a great deal and some aren't. People who pay more than retail for stuff that's readily available at the local Wal-Mart or thrift shop are just bad shoppers, or ill-informed.

BTW - depending on where you live, certain things are hard to find in your local area and you may have to pay a premium to obtain them.

Are you kidding I paid saved hndreds of dollars getting my textbooks from places like bay and amazon opposed to the actuall bookstore. Where else do you find books that were sold for $5 dollars that was originally priced for $80 at your school. No where but Ebay baby!

When people say that, it doesn't necessarily mean that everything is a deal. There are very good deals. But, many people just try to rip you off too. If people don't have enough sense to know how much something is worth before they buy it, they are just stupid and deserve to lose their money.
