When you no longer have a desire to work. Many people retire and say they are bored. It is an individual preference. On the other hand, many cannot afford to retire.

what does retire mean? stop working? stop working for money? Where i work there is at least a dozen guys who are all "retired" . they work cause they want to do something, they already did the traveling, did the gardening, and dont want to sit and wait to die, they dont need the money.
One of them finally quit at 85...His wife made him quit.
once i graduate from college and do my job i'll go back there to work.
