The menstrual cycle is not the same for every woman. On average, menstrual flow occurs every 28 days (with most women having cycles between 24 and 34 days), and lasts about 4 days. However, there is wide variation in timing and duration that is still considered normal, especially if your periods began within the last few years.
A small percentage of women have periods more often than every 21 days or less often than every 35 days. These variations may be normal.(medlinePlus)
The medical term for cycles with intervals of 21 days or fewer is polymenorrhea and, on the other hand, the term for cycles with intervals exceeding 35 days is oligomenorrhea (or amenorrhea if intervals exceed 180 days).(Wikipedia) However, a normal cycle can range from 18 to 40 days.
Polymenorrhea (periods at intervals of 2 to 3 weeks)
* What causes polymenorrhea?

What causes polymenorrhea? Polymenorrhea is caused by:
* Frequent ovulation caused by hyperactivity of the anterior pituitary gland.
* Constitutional disorders such as malnutrition, and psychological disturbances.
* Pelvic disorders such as chocolate cysts in the ovaries and chronic pelvic inflammation.
How is polymenorrhea treated? Polymenorrhea is treated by improving general health, correcting anaemia, treating pelvic causes (if any), and combined oestrogen and progesterone therapy from day 5 to day 25 of the menstrual cycle. If medical treatment does not work, dilatation and curettage (D & C) may be suggested.

Please go to your doctor/ob-gyn as soon as you can, tell him/her about this. That does not seem normal I do know, from experience, that -that can happen in your peri-menopausal stage. But mine only was in a month or two time. Not as long as you have been going thru. Could be a symptom of a fibroid tumor (probably benign) or something else going on.Take care.
