I'm 19 soon and never had ear-piercing before. I'm rather tomboyish as well. Friends have persuaded me to go have my ears pierce but i'm not sure. I'm not afraid of the pain, i just feel that it is not me. Feel like slowly stepping out of my tomboyishness but am not sure if i should do it? what's the big deal anyway?

Hey guess what? I never pierced my ears. I think I wanted to when I was 12 or 14, but my mom wisely told me to wait until I was older, and then if I still wanted to I could. I didn't really want to later. I made it all the way to adulthood and have adult children, and I have never regretted not piercing my ears.

It's kind of unique, actually, to have whole, perfect earlobes. My very own fashion statement!

Your 19 which should make you old enough to make your own choices. If doesn't matter if you are a tomboy or the Queen of Sheba, if you have second thoughts about getting your ears pierced it doesn't sound like a good idea. Oh dear, I'm beginning to sound like a mother here. WEll, anyway, it's something you do that you have to live with. But not only live with, take care of. you don't just get them pierced, you have to take care of them, clean them every day, at the beginning more than once a day. If you aren't into this you are going to get an infection. Stick to the screw on earrings for now. If you find you like them then get your ears pierced. Think of yourself as a unique person, not a part of a pack that has to do what everyone else does. You are getting this advice from someone who knows how to do what she wants. I got my ears pierced when I was very young, and nobody had their ears pierced. I was looked at as strange. I'm the opposite of you, I've gone ahead and had a lot of piercings all over, but it's because it's what I wanted, not what people told me to do. When I had my navel pierced it was not in style, but who cared, but I knew I had to live with it. That's the main thing, YOU have to live with your choice, not your friends. If they really are your friends, tell them to back off, it's your choice, not theirs. You will do it when and if you are ready. My good friend just got her ears pierced and she is 55. My mother in law just died and she never had pierced ears, did that make either of them better or worse people, no. As my husband kids me, I just get piercings so it's new places for him to get me jewelry. I don't think you care. Stick up for yourself, in the long run you will feel so much better about yourself and who you are.

hi - I am 31 and I have 4 piercings in each ear. I got them thru my life starting at 7 or 8 and until I got my last one at like 18 or 19. The pain only lasts for a second. It's like a really hard pinch and then a slight burn and that's IT. it's really not all that bad. if you feel unsure of how you will like having earrings, try some clip-ons for a few days.

After piercing, if you REALLY HATE them, just take them out within a week or so and they will close-up.

I say go for it! If you don't like it after a couple days you can take them out and the holes will close... So there's no risk. You never know you may find that you feel really nice with them or find of ear rings that you find are pretty cool. Also tomboy is really nice if its got a little femininity in it as well. Good luck and have fun!

If you decide to pierce, be ready to wear them often so the holes won't close up. If you wear hoops or dangling earrings, be ready for them to snag on something, whether it's your own hair or clothing (ow!). Backings can fall off, and earrings can be lost, so remember that if you're thinking about wearing diamonds or other precious stones.

Right, whats the big deal. Just get one so we don't see you asking same thing in couple of days 'should get my ears pierced?'

If you've waited this long, you can wait a little bit longer until you are ready and comfortable with the idea. You'll know when it's the right time for you. Don't be pressured by others. . . they're your ears.
