Form a committee and take on the task of cleaning sections of your city streets. Seek the help of your local prison and prisoners. I think that you will find that after a while, as the project grows, others will won't to climb on board. Especially when they see the results. Seek ordinances that will specify the appearance of certain advertisement signs. Push for stricter penalties for littering and use the funds for improvements to the city.

Our cities are getting overcrowded day by day. There are several apartments cropping up and in addition the cause for traffic congestions. Whenever there is a crowd than there is also scarcity like water, power supply, food etc. Instead of garbage bins on the roads the concerned should collect garbage bags from each and every household. Dog shelters should be provided in the city outskirts. Persons urinating on the roads should be jailed or penalised with a heavy fine. One simply cannot walk on the streets because of the urine stench in every nook and corner.

That depends on your city. what is the attitude of the people who live there? What are the major problems with your city? What are the worst areas? As we don't all live in the same city(despite what New Yorkers think, or Chicago)we don't share the same problems. Are vacant store windows boarded up? Paint murals on them. If they aren't have the building owner dress them up somehow. Plant flowers downtown. Organize volunteers to clean up their neighborhoods.Talk to different schools. Kids have wonderful ideas.

I Live in Montana....and we have lots of rural areas...we also have a program called adopt a highway...which is a group of people wheather business groups or private citizen groups who donate their time to clean a mile section of different highways ...roads... blocks...etc...we also have people from the jail doing community services by cleaning the sides of the roads...You could talk to the city counsel and county commissioners see if the jail inmates could take on that task as it also gives them exercise...and talk to the Chamber of commerce about getting groups of business persons to take on a portion.. it's their city too!! Also talk to school boards and go to PTA meetings and discuss with citizens about cleaning up the city...it's a great way to get family time and a bonus of getting their children to do community services that will look great on their future resumes....Good Luck....Hope this is helpful!!
