when I enrolled there for the first time, Fall 2004, I decided my major was going to be Computer Science, because I was into computers a lot. Now, that I've been there for two 2 1/2 years I have decided that I want to change major...I want to be a pharmacist. I hear pharmacy schools are very competitive and usually takes you about 5-6 yrs to graduate. I also heard that you are interviewed before being admitted to a pharmacy school....what kind of questions are they going to ask me? Also, I have taken many undergraduate courses (ex: English, math, etc), I have almost completed them all, so now I should be taking the ones that will prepare me to transfer to a pharmacy school right?

Before you can apply to pharmacy school, you will have to transfer into a four-year college or university.

You will then have to take "pre-med" courses, which typically include 2 years of chemistry (including organic) with labs, 1 year of biology, 1 year of English, a year of physics, a semester of economics, and a semester of Calculus. (Note that the admission requirements vary from pharmacy school to pharmacy school. Check this .pdf file for the requirements at the pharm schools you're interested in. )

In the fall of your senior year, you take the PCAT test, and then apply to pharm schools. Make sure to get a very high score on the PCAT in order to be a competitive candidate.

Best wishes to you!

An academic advisor from your college would be a better one to answer your question -- at least regarding what courses you should take before transferring. I would suggest researching pharmacy schools online, and contacting them to ask about the interview, courses needed, etc. I know the University of Montana has a pharmacy program, I'm not sure where other programs are. But the academic advising office at your college is there to help you with things such as this. They should be able to help you find information about schools and things. In some cases, they will even do some research for you.

Good luck!

Yes, you will need to take the courses that will get you into a Pharmacy School. Conact the school that you want to attend for their requirements, as thy are different from school to school.

Most Pharmacy schools require at least one year of prerequisite work. Then you will have to go to school for 3-4 more years. So, it is possible to be in school for 5-6 years.

let's worry about getting your prerequisites done to apply to a college of Pharmacy......then worry about the interview questions in a couple of years.

Yup, a couple of years. That's how long it will likely take to get your prereqs done. Contact the nearest college of Pharmacy to get an idea of what you are up against.

Good luck!

you better see what the pre-requisits are for the college you want to go to, most require several classes in organic chemistry, microbiology, etc. before you are even eligible to apply
