If you have pleny of plants, they will not possibly be able to eat all of the eggs in one night. Pack the tank with as many plants as you can. Java moss works the best for hiding eggs, fry, ect. from the parents. It is very easy to grow too, and will grow practically anywhere, even with hardly any light. I suggest you go get some if you want to breed your fish.

Unfortunately, your neon tetra cannot be pregnant. They don't get pregnant - they are egg layers.

The female lays the eggs on a surface like plant leaves or in the gravel and a male fertilizes them, outside her body. There is no parental care, i.e., both parents leave after spawning.

It is possible that she is full of eggs that she wants to lay, but in that case, she will just do it and be done. So, the bottom line is that there is nothing you can (or should) do.

Are you sure it isnt a guppy? That would be a whole different story since guppies are live birthers

If I were a breeder of neon tetras, I would have another tank ready to put the neons in. Also have a lot of plants to hide the eggs. Also try typing tetra or neon tetra into the Yahoo! search engine - a lot of good links there! One of the links: http://www.aquariumhobbyist.com/articles/NeonTetras.html , has some links on it to some breeding related forums. Good luck!

When I have bred these fish, I place a layer of children's glass marbles on the floor of the tank. The eggs sink down between the marbles & the parents can't get at them. This will give you plenty of time to remove the parents.

out of all the times to give birth, its probaly not going to be at night, but if it is, the mom will not eat them, she will eat the dad because the dad will want to eat the eggs, so u will wake up with 1 adult and 200000000 babies a.k.a. alot , and if you see her give birth, completely remove the eggs to another tank, leaving the mom and dad together, but keep the 2 tanks close, and it doesnt have to be a huge tank, just a little thing!

Ok what you do is get a goldfish or regular popcorn bowl. put the pregnant fish in it. wait overnight till she gives birth. then in the morning take her out and put her back in the tank. when the fish are about a centimeter longput them back in the tank. this gose the same with guppies.

You can also get a *breeder pen* to put in your Aquarium to protect them after they are hatched. It is cheap and you can find it in any pet store.
