as the moon orbits the earth, it moves closer to and further away from the sun in respect to your position on the earth. If you hold a ball at arms length and while facing towards the sun slowly swing it in an arc towards the sun or away from it, you will notice that you can see the shadow slowly form on the side that faces away from the sun. You can simulate all the phases of the moon this way, even a lunar and solar eclipse.... remember that your head actually represents the earth in this excercise..... have fun

Because the Sun sends light only to a part of it, and from the Earth both enlightened and darkened parts can be seen at that particular time.

Proof: make a triangle, with the Sun, the Moon and the Earth on it's corners. Then You will find out, because the lines from the corners will reoresent the light from the Sun and the view from the Earth. If You make objects considerably sized and lines of a greater thickness, everything will become clear.

Because the moon goes through "phases." It is not eclipsed, but you are seeing only part of the daytime side of the moon.

You're looking at the moon when the sun is shining on it from the side. The part of the moon you usually can't see in daytime is hidden by the particles in the atmosphere (blue sky).

Sometimes the unlit side is very faintly visible.

The reason is that actually the sun's rays fall on the moon and we see it in night. But in day, the rays partially on earth and partially on moon so it is seen partially eclipsed

The shadow (dark area ) of the moon is the shadow cast by the earth, because at that point the earth is partially blocking the direct rays of the sun to the dark area
