Economics. More junk food is sold compared to the amount of health food bought so the junk food chains buy huge amounts of products getting them at cheap prices while lesser amounts of health food are bought so the producer cant profit without seeling at a higher price. This is commonly known as DEMAND and SUPPLY.

Actually it is probably the other way around. Processed foods are pretty expensive and there is hardly any nutrition in them! People want them for being convenient.

When healthy food is mentioned, people tend to think of prepared healthy food ready in health stores and these will be expensive since they are especially prepared for the comsumers.

However, eating healthily doesn't have to be expensive if you buy the basic ingredients and prepare them yourself.

For example:

Buying the flour and grains to prepare your own breads etc.. Buying flour and making bread, will cost less in the long run than actually buying bread everyday

Buying whole foods such as dried peas and beans:
Much cheaper, stores for ages up to a year or so and you can make it fresh anytime you wish. i.e rather than buy a tin of broads beans or whatever etc. make your own. This is healthier.

Buy your own fresh veggies and freeze them rather than used canned.

This is just a couple of examples.

Having said this, what it comes down to in the end is that many people don't know how to prepare them from scratch or don't want to be bothered and thus this is where the demand for junk foods come in and the consumer willing to pay more.

A junk food is less expensive than a healthy food because a junk food is not health for us to eat and we are not yet satisfied when eating junk food but a health food can satisfy our needs..........

It's much more difficult to grow crops in small farms, doing everything by hand. Big farms use artificial fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, pesticides. Big livestock farms use antibiotics and designer feed. Organic farms use crop placement to control pests and weeds and lose a lot anyway. Organic ranchers feed livestock unsprayed grasses and meal. Many people don't buy organic because it doesn't "look right." The chickens look yellow, the veggies aren't as bright or have ragged leaves, so the farmer has a harder time selling. Most people today don't know what real food tastes like.

it might appear to be less expensive but you have to eat more to fill you up so i think it comes out being more expensive. your body nears certain vitamins and minerals every day or you will have cravings. if you fill your body up with junk you will crave what you are missing. in the long run you will spend more on health care and exercise and sooner or later diet pills, perhaps....if you are talking about organic food being expensive.. then yeah you are right. it is because they don't use chemicals on the crops so the yield is smaller due to bugs, etc. this is turn causes the price to be high.

Cooking food from scratch is cheaper than buying food from a fast-food outlet, if you cook using reasonably priced ingredients. Much tastier and more filling too.
