if it won't drain at all, the pump is most likely bad, call a repairman. If it will drain but only if you turn the dial to the next cycle, then your timer is bad, call a repairman. If it drains but the water goes all over the floor, your drain or drain hose is plugged.

Solenoid on a drain? Not on a washer.
If you turn your timer to where it is supposed to drain, listen to it.
If you hear a clicking or buzzing coming from your timer, keep listening till it goes to the rise cycle. If no other noise is made, your pump isn't being turned on. You should hear a distinct click and the start of a whizzing sound as the pump starts then, the gurgle of the water draining.
There are two areas to check, the timer may not be making contact or the pump motor is stuck or bad.
In either case, depending on the age of the washer, you will be better off purchasing another one. Certainly if the pump is bad.
The timer alone can run you over $100 plus repair time. The pump exceeds that significantly.
Sorry
Good Luck

I don't know where you live but the drain line could be frozen. It could also be your solenoid in the washer itself not opening the drain in the washer. It could be many problems. If there is no water coming out of the washer when it goes into the drain cycle, it's the solenoid gone bad probably. If water is coming out the drain line, you have a plugged up drain.

I didn't see any answers that mentioned the lid safety switch. Normally there is a pin on the washer lid that fits into a hole on top of the washer. Below the hole is a switch that "when made" indicates that the lid is closed. If the pin is broken off or the switch is out of position or defective the machine will cease to function for safety reasons....Good Luck... P.S. The wash cycle will not be affected.

you already have all the right answers to your question except one check and make sure your drain hose is hung higher than where your water lines go into the back of your washer. if the drain spout is to low your washer will not drain at all or it may drain only part way.

The problem most probably is your pump is not working or the hose that the water drains out is blocked.

Check to make sure the drain where the hose drains to is not clogged.

what kind of washer do you have? and how old is it? without that info can give you any specific advice. it's kinda like saying you need a tire for a car, to get the right one you need to know what it is going on.
