I cannot imagine anyone seriously considering such a proposal within our lifetimes. The USA is too proprietary.

Hi-

You are going to hear things like this for at least a decade....And talk is heating up a bit now that the US dollar and Canadian dollar are almost equal.

The bottom line however is it will NEVER, EVER happen. The US dollar is too much of the global economic fabric for the currency to go through an adjustment.

Canada is simply not willing to adjust their economic standards to ours, and Mexico could not ever get to the point with currency that it would be as stable as the US Dollar. In fact, tthe average salary in some Mexico cities would be less than $1 per day, thus throwing poor families into worse dispair.

The EU was able to come to an agreement because different currency was more or less accepted throughout the EU, and many countries already had similar valuations.

You will not ever see America switching from the US dollar, and because of Mexico, it makes it almost impossible for Canada and Mexico to adopt the US dollar.

A common currency means a common central bank and hence common economic policy. Common economic policy is good if all of the participating regions are similar. The best economic policies for Canada and the US are close but not identical. The US interest would dominate to the detriment of Canada. The Mexican economy is quite different and has different needs, so a common currency would not benefit Mexico. Ultimately the value of a currency is determined by the resources behind it. Canada has a lot more resources per capita than the US and a trade surplus rather than a trade deficit. I am not in favour of diluting the value of the Canadian dollar with greenbacks or worse, pesos in a combined currency.

Good idea for the long term to have one currencey for the world because than its easier to make purchases across borders. Business cant hide or losses with just one currency. It makes banking more effiecent. Natitivst and consipracy theoriest people are not the ones to debate about it.
The EU idea for North America is bad, but we should work out something to allow people to come and go as they please, but not allow supranational body set up like the EU.

One currency for north America should be voted for by all 3 countries, and approved but not done to the service of wallstreet. Benefits of one currency is lower transaction costs, and more transpracy detemining the actual costs of goods.

As a Canadian I would have no problems switching to an American dollar. We both use dollars anyway. At the end of the day, it shouldn't matter.

Remember, the tail can't wag the dog!!!

Read this article titled "The plan to replace the dollar with the 'Amero'"
I think it stinks. This administration constantly touts patriotism yet they are trying to merge us with Canada and Mexico. They are doing it without congressional approval or the approval of the American people.

Oh $#^%%$! I really hope that's not true. The dollar is already inferior in value (temporarily) to the Euro, we don't want it to go down the toilet. A highly-valued dollar makes America successful and powerful.
