My daughter has a cold. The common coughing and runny nose type. I don't have any cold medicine on hand, and she can't sleep. I do have ibuprofen. Will giving her an accurate dose of that help her to sleep, or is it the wrong thing to do?
I've cuddled, and rocked, and given sips of juice...she's four years old, and just miserable...pharmacies won't open till the morning.
Any advice is very much appreciated!

Ibuprofen won't help her cold. Go to the grocery store and get a CHILD's type of cough and cold formula (TYLENOL?) Other than that, expect a long night for you. Rock her. hold her, let her sleep with you, and don't expect any sleep yourself, but if you give her a little over-the-counter cold medecine, she should be feeling better in the morning. You don't need prescription meds for this

Unless she has a fever- the ibuprofen won't help her to sleep so much. Try taking her into the bathroom, shutting the door and steaming her. Its an old asthma trick. It should ease her breathing and relax her muscles enough for her to get a few hours of shut eye.
**** DONT GIVE HER HONEY UNLESS YOU ALREADY KNOW THAT SHE CAN HAVE IT- A COLD IT ONE THING.
BOTULISM IS ANOTHER!!

Giving her ibuprofen will not help her coughing and runny nose but she might be so miserable and cant sleep because of body aches. It will not hurt to give it to her but if it does nothing for her then you know the next time not to give it to her.

Well if all you have is ibuprofen it work will for now, but it wont do much...if you can you should go to a convenience store and buy some medication. If you have any tea it should help relax her add some honey and it should make her a little more comfortable. (caffeine free if you have it)

Try giving her a bath, it will relax her and help relieve any congestion she may have. Give her some pepperment or chamomile tea to help her sleep. Do not give her tea like black tea, it has caffeine and will keep her awake. Ibuprofen will not help her sleep, it mainly cures things like headaches. Giving her a nice back rub can also increase her immune system. She needs to sleep, but if she honestly can't just have her lay on a bed while you read her a book.

My mama used to give me peach brandy when I got a cold, but she would only give me a couple of caps full. She didn't get me drunk or anything nasty like that, she just helped me sleep comfortably when there was nothing else that would help. Back when i was a child, there was no cold medicine, NONE AT ALL!
I am not suggesting to you that you give your daughter a thimblefull of brandy, I'm just letting you know what my mama did for me.
If you have any adult cold medicine, you can give that your your daughter, just give her a much smaller amount.
Good Luck and Tell your baby I said GET WELL SOON!

give her some warm milk that should calm her down and hopefully the warmth of the milk will soothe her throat and not irritate it too much. halls cough drops or any minty hard candy should also help. if you have vicks vapo rub rub some on her throat and chest.
you can find some over the counter meds in a gas station.
hope that helps.

Nothing sugar. At 4 cool steam could help ease the congestion. Comforting tones while telling her a story could induce sleep. if need be prop her up with pillows until morning.

Maybe some warm milk with just a little lemon in it. Just enough to taste a little sour. And give her some vitamins. That should help. Oh, and but her in some warm clothes and put like a thick scarf or a beane, what ever they are called, hat what ever, and let her be warm. just sing her a lullaby but not some sharp sounds or lound. It will give her a head ache. that should help.
