I think yes. at least some does. when they do not have any important work to do in the chemistry lab or biology lab or anything like that, they chew gum just like normal people. scientists are still human, after all. they can also swim, watch TV, eat potato chips, just like normal people. plus, there is no law that scientists may not chew gum.
but still, some scientists think that gum is bad for your teeth and your gum (the body part gum, not the food gum), and this is right, since they are scientists, so some scientists don't chew gum.
the most accurate answer is that some scientists chew gum and some don't.

I don't, for the most part it's a personal thing but the lab where I work has made it policy that there is no eating or chewing gum in the lab. It's all in the interest of safety along with rules like you must take off your gloves before leaving the lab. Personally I don't see a problem but I don't argue, I want my job.
P.S. There was a funny story about someone who didn't take off his gloves when leaving the lab, he had a rather corrosive chemical (phosgene) on his gloves and he touched the door handle, someone else touched the door handle and went to the washroom. Needless to say his you-know-what started burning after an hour or so.

Not if they have dentures.
It also depends on the kind of gum-- for example, they would never eat resin gum that came from a chemical container, even if they poured it out while holding the container on the label side.

Scientists are so clever they can do experiments and chew gum at the same time without falling over. Maybe we should test our politicians the same way.

Apparently, yes at one point in their lives, they do! I'll bet Einstein had some gum before.

extremely genius scientists don't even have time to look at their faces in the mirror.Want proof? see any of the discovery's science programs and see how they indulge themselves in the subject so much that they don't even comb their hair despite of the fact that the programs r transmitted worldwide.
best example- ALBERT EINSTEIN!!!!

Not in biology lab, they don't. Probable not in chemistry labs either.
