well on my typical exam they start by measuring & weighing me. Then they ask the typical questions about sexual activity, my periods, and stuff like that. Then they do the breast exam. Then the pap and internal exam. Its not that bad. so if your asking cause your worried about a first visit dont be!!! Just remember a Gyno doc probably sees about 100 different vaginas every week. So its nothing new to them. You'll be ok. I promise

The nurse will take your blood pressure and other vitals just like in the regular docs office. She will ask you when your last menstural period was and if you are sexually active etc and if you have an unusual discharge etc. She will then set out a gown and a sheet and have you undress after she leaves the room. Once undressed the doc will come in and review your chart. He/she will have you lie back on the exam table and put your legs up in the stirrups. The doc will insert a plastic speculum to help hold your vagina open so he can look inside for abnormalitities. The doc will then take a small wooden stick and gently scrape a few of your cervix cells to puy on a microscope slide. THIS DOES NOT HURT!! If it hurts speak up and tell your doc as it is not supposed to hurt. He will then remove the speculum and put is gloved finger into your vagina while his other hand presses on your abdomin to fell your ovaries etc. He will then remove his hand and tak off his gloves and do a breast exam. He will then have you sit up and ask if you have any questions and this is the end of your exam.
