why do the weather people on tv say the winds are blowing when its just WIND

Good question. I don't know. Now that you mention it, it is weird to say that winds are blowing.

The thing with the wind(s) stuff is that, if you have ever seen the diagram on Currents and Direction of wind flow, it is not one type of airmass being blow in a particular dirrection. There could be like 3 air masses meeting to form one huge mass blowing in one direction so for that guy on tv to explain all this like the number of masses meeting and where they have come from and why the air masses have met ,it will sound like language from outer space. At a particular point there could be a front where wind(s) from each direction meet like on tropical region all the wind(s) from the north will meet with all the wind(s) from the south forming a huge mass of winds which will be diverted to the weakest direction(lower pressure areas) or rain could be a result of the colliding air masses. hope you are answered

I don't think the people who lived through the tornado's in Central Florida last night- thought of it as, "just wind". The wind is a force to be reckoned with... Ignore it at your own peril... -It's next victim may be you...

I gues you are right, but there is nothing wrong in saying the wind is blowing.
