Firstly I have travelled quite extensively and it is not just Europeans that have a dislike for Americans and I don't believe that Europeans hate Americans per se, I think it is just the attitude that SOME Americans have. The beautiful mix of ignorance and arrogance which is not at all appealing.
I think it is a general consensus that your leader has shown a these traits many a time which makes it hard to be endeared to him.

We have a slightly jaundiced view of Americans. It bothers us a lot that Americans believe they won the 2nd world war and that if it wasn't for their intervention, we (British) would be speaking German now. The film industry has added to the problem by re-inventing our history and making it American history. This bothers quite a lot of people over here, it's a bit petty I know but there it is. A friend of my husband has an American girlfriend who constantly spouts on about what America did for us in the war etc, and it makes for an uncomfortable evening when we do meet up. I can say in all honesty, that I do not hate Americans. You must realise the people who reply to Yahoo answers are a very small minority and their views are not necessarily held by other Brit's.

I'm an American but I thought I'd add a little something. I'm sure not all Europeans hate Americans. That's a very broad statement. There are Europeans who hate the American government, Europeans who love Americans, and those who hate us. Just like there are Americans who hate/love Europeans.
All of it's stupid though. It all boils down to negative stereotypes and generalization, and none of it's good.

Ok first point-yes I hate George W Bush,he is a moron who seems to think he's president of the world not the USA.
I don't hate all Americans-I know a lot of Americans are great. However that loser did get elected twice which makes me wonder what Americans look for in a leader....then again Blair is nearly as bad.
P.S. I am in the UK.

Many Germans, a few English and a couple South Africans have mentioned how they never have any say in international matters and how much they oppose the U.S. government under Bush. They feel intimidated by the pervasiveness of U.S. military power and the misuse of their foreign policy. It was difficult enough for them to deal with Yugoslavia and they did not want to deal with Iraq and Afghanistan. This would sum up what they said as I remember it, it was my impression at the time.
One South African asked me if I felt it was difficult being so close.

You're asking everyone in the world, except Americans, about *European* feelings. Are you sure you don't just want to ask Europeans?
Most Europeans have stronger views on the US, as a country, than US citizens, as a people. Their views on the US as a country depend on where they come from, how much they care about politics and so on (e.g. post-Soviet republic perhaps, or France, where communists until the 1980s regularly won 30%+ of the seats in parliament)......their views on US citizens come from Hollywood....that doesn't help your chances much!
