Bernice apparently has a brother who was placed up for adoption by her parents when he was born. He chose to find his birth mother and discovered he has a family, mom dad and sis. He is a sargent in the millitary and is stateside and visiting his family. Who else thinks that when he goes back to the middle east he will be killed in action?

Saturn - have you seen the character? he looks exactly like Bernice.
Death, maybe not, but maybe physical limitations from war related wound (Think Lt. Dan Forrest Gump)
But then again Luann has always tackled the hard issues (drug abuse, diseases, my space...)

I hope not! I hope he comes back. And, if he gets wounded or anything, I hope that they give stinking Doonsbury one in the eye, by not letting him become a whining quitter like the character that lost a leg, to try to influence people against supporting the President.
