Bottom line? Curiosity, plain and simple. Even at my lowest points I've been curious about what was going to happen next. I figure we're all going to die someday, so why hasten it? Even if we experience bad times, I mean REALLY bad times, it can only get better - right? Or at least different.
During the GOOD times, I like to try to make things a little better in my neighborhood. I pick up trash on the beach and the streets, I patronize local businesses over the corporate ones, I talk to the locals and the tourists, and hopefully make some friends in the process.
I love nature. I live in Florida. It can amount to sensory overload, but I love it all.
The SOUND of the surf; the wind swishing through the palm trees; rock n' roll. The SIGHT of tropical bounty all year round, green and flowering with all the colors of the rainbow; the beach sand; the calm aqua water in summer; the sight of the Space Shuttle blasting off. The TASTE of raw oysters from Apalachicola; grilled clams with drawn butter; rock shrimp from Dixie Crossroads; snook caught right in Melbourne, fresh and sweet. The FEEL of sand between my toes and fingers; the way the breeze cools me off during my walks; the native aloe I brush onto my skin after a day in the sun. And finally, the SMELL of the ocean, briny and clean; the ozone during a thunderstorm, and the clean breezy smell after.
Those are the things that make life worth living to me.
This is what I believe in:
An optimistic outlook, not only for myself but for the entire human race and the Universe at large. Belief in a higher power, completely organic yet impossibly intelligent in a way we have yet to understand. Every organic entity has a soul. Belief that my consciousness will outlive my body in some way. An ultimate wish to become One with the Universe.
There ya go.
