Mechanics liens need to be documented. Builders can not put liens on a property if they do not have a valid claim. Granted it is pretty easy for a builder to start the process.

You need to check your records and what you have paid. If you are going to say something was paid in full then you need to have records showing what was paid and why you believe it is fully paid.

After collecting your records and checking the title for the property contact the builder if anything is still showing up. It could be that the paperwork was not filed correctly to take an old lien off if there was one and it was paid in the past.

You need to get copies of everything and if you can support your side, take him to court. Small claims if the amount is within your state guidelines. If not, get an attorney, this is very important to clear up.
Good luck
