20 minutes? That's hell!

But I think is nothing serious, If that's the only symptom; may be you got too many programs starting at "start up", reset them, do some cleaning. Too much stuff at the desk top is also bad. And 1G or RAM would be better (it will go faster, if you got too many memory hungry programs). Check for viruses, bugs, spyware or any other malware.

But for now start deleting everything, save your stuff and do a full restore, and start fro the begining; It's easier to do this than go hunting for bugs.

If you don't feel like you can do it don't do it or you'll end up messin up the machine. RAM should be installed by a pro or you'll fry the CPU or the Motherboard. If you are not sure about how to do it ask someone with more experience.

Have you ever looked at your startup menu? You may have too many programs loading at startup. I'm not sure what windows you're running but it's pretty much the same for them all. Click start, run. Then type msconfig in the run box click OK. Here you will see a new box pop up. There are tabs on the top. Look for the one that reads startup, click that one. Now you will see a list of items with check marks next to them. Read through them and see which ones you really need to run every time you start your computer. Like you don't need any of your messengers or music/video programs. If you're not sure check this site for help.

Well, this could be due to many factors. Some anti-viruses will actually scan your entire hard-drive before letting windows run if you recently got a severe virus. There could be other function designated to run at start-up such as cleanup or update software's. It could be a problem with the command lines that start-up Windows. Lastly, hardware problems could be the cause of the slowdown. Except for the anti-virus, these problems need to be addressed by an expert.

Start over with Ubuntu Linux; say goodbye to spyware and intrusive antivirus programs. Most Linux installs boot in 60 seconds or less. Ubuntu Linux is one of the first versions of Linux which is easily installed by an unsophisticated user; best of all, you can download Ubuntu Linux for free!

you may want to reformat your hard drive and do a clean install of windows.but before you do that do to start > run > type msconfig
and clear your start up you can change it back if it doesn't work.go to download.com and download cCleaner
and run it that will help a lot. download spy bot search and destroy and Adaware. do like the first 2 answers have said.if you do all of that and this than back-up every thing you need and reformat the hard drive. but try every thing before you do that because it will save a lot of time if you have to back things up.
good luck :-)
