Because when we are in combat, you do things that you wouldn't normally do for your comerades, because you are closer than you are to your own blood brother with somebody you just know from your profession.
Because doing the right thing and being scared while you do it isn't what makes you a hero. It is giving up your today for all the tomorrows of the people you fight with and for.
Battle and fighting isn't pretty , or romantic, it's scary and you think you might get killed, but sometimes you live more intensely than the protected do in years...
I guess that was why Billy had to be a hero, for you and me and his buddies.
