It is coming up on my dad's birthday who died last year. I want to get my mom out of the house and a few family members had talked about a chick movie night a while ago. I thought I would invite her over that night to get her out of the house. However, the movie we originally had talked about was the Lake House. My mom says she doesn't feel up to watching a romantic comedy like that on his birthday. So I ask anyone's suggestion on a good movie to watch? Thanks for your answers in advance!

If you want to,you can get "what dreams may come" it did wonders for my auntie when her youngest son died.
But if you want to stay clear from it and stuff,I'd say the night at the museum sounds like a good option. It's fun and silly so she might cheer up

I just saw the movie, "Volver" starring Penelope Cruz. It's subtitled (it's a Spanish movie), but it's REALLY good. It's definitely a "chick flick" movie in that the women of the movie all have a deep loyalty for one another. It's quirky, witty, and has a few twists (I totally called them, but that's because I'm pretty much a genius). There are some sad aspects to the film, but unless your family has a history of sexual abuse, it won't be something that your mother will dwell on. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed it and think it would be a different sort of movie for you gals to watch.

Why do you have to watch a movie at all; doesn't sound like your mom wants to. Why not just have a family get-together and talk about your dad and celebrate his life? The only movies you might show are any home movies or a Power-Point presentation of family photos and favorite music.

i never saw the movie, but i had read the book, five people you meet in heaven...i have pasted the synopsis for you......

A TV movie adapted from Mitch Albom's best-selling novel of the same name, THE FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN stars Jon Voight (MIDNIGHT COWBOY, THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE) as Eddie, whose 83rd birthday marks the movie's opening. An impassive man of few words and a self-effacing modesty, Eddie's lifelong employment as the maintenance man at the Ruby Pier amusement park has endowed him with a stoicism punctuated by flashes of kindness. Over the years, he has grown to accept a vague disappointment in his life. But Eddie's 83rd birthday also marks his death, as he is injured while trying to save a young girl; we are then treated to Eddie's experiences in the afterlife, where he is greeted by five people whose lives were intertwined with his in more or less unexpected ways. Though at times saccharine and preachy, this is a moving tale of a man who discovers the true meaning of his life, as he looks back on it with the enhanced perspective of death you meet on your way to heaven
