Okay, I have a problem. I am 14 years old and am in the 9th grade. I rarely do my homework. I get home at 2:00 everyday (except for the next few months coming up when I will be home at 5:00) and usually watch TV or go on the computer and never get to doing my HW. I tell myself that I should do it because I will regret it the next day but still never do it.
I still hold it off and the day comes that I have to hand it in and usually copy it from someone. I don't want to get anyone (parents included) involved to help me actually do it becuase it is my life and my grades. I want to do good, but I don't want to do the HW but know I should.

Does anyone have any ideas that could possible help me do my HW on my own without anyone's help? Things that will actually make me do it without getting distracted or waiting till the last minute.

Thanks to all!

Hopefully you have a designated homework spot in your house. If not find one this weekend, make this spot ONLY for homework, so in your bedroom is usually not a good place try using the dining room table etc.
Buy a kitchen timer, the kind that has a dial that you can set for up to 60 minutes. When you first come home from school, set the timer for 20 minutes and have a light snack, use the bathroom, etc and then get out your supplies and homework. Once the timer goes off, its work time. Set the timer for 1 hour and place it across the room from you. Start working and don't stop until the timer rings. Then get up and move around for about 15-20 minutes doing something fun, dance, jog around the block, just get moving. Then reset the timer for another hour, and finish up your work. If you haven't completed all the assignment in the 2 hours, then take another break and then finish. Once you get into a routine, then you will find that you are able to complete your homework quicker, and then you will have more free time to watch TV and use the computer. Good Luck.
PS if you absolutely HAVE to have music or something in the background, try using one of those "relaxation" type cd's, piano music, or something without WORDS... words will distract your brain and you won't be fully focused on the task.

PS.. I'm a mom of 3 and a grandma of 4.. so trust me, it will work.

You GPA is so high because your copie your work from really smart people.

The best advice I can give you is to stay in school and do your homework at the library. You know you will not do it when you get home so do to the library to finish is. Most are open until around 6 or 7 pm so you should be ok when you have to be home at 5pm.

You do have the ability to choose. You are choosing to watch TV or play around on the computer rather than choosing to do your homework. Something I learned from my little brother: JUST DO IT. You choose. Maybe you have a fear of failure and are afraid to actually try or some other psycho-babble reason. The bottom line it JUST DO IT. Life is about your choices. CHOOSE to do the homework and get it out of the way first, then other stuff. This is YOUR life. Own it, and be it. You can do it. You CAN do it.

Invite a friend to come straight over with you to force you to get it done, someone who is serious about their life and grades.

JUST DO IT.

Where are your parents? It is their job to teach you how to manage your time!

When you get home, avoid the TV or computer. If you go to them, you'll never get away. Unplug them if you have to. Turn off cell phones, no AIM, nothing. Then figure out how much time you have. If you get home at 5 and bedtime is 10, spend 2 1/2 hours on homework and 2 1/2 on entertainment.

You COPY your homework? You are setting a pattern in your life to come. CHEATING never works. What you need is SELF DISCIPLINE. Force yourself to do your work ON YOUR OWN, and PUNISH yourself when you don't. Do SERIOUS punishments like not allowing yourself to do things you REALLY like doing when you don't do your homework ON YOUR OWN.
Homework, for the most part, is to reinforce what you learned. Doing your homework ON YOUR OWN will help the info stay in your mind when it comes time for tests. By COPYING SOMEONE ELSE'S WORK...you learn NOTHING and are showing you cannot be trusted. When (not IF) you get caught cheating like that, you will have no one to blame but yourself for your actions. If you cheat now in school....what will you be like in the REAL WORLD after you're out of school and older?
I've worked with cheaters....it's easy to see where their habit of cheating started.

You're going to have to learn to self-motivate. You're not going to have someone holding your hand for the rest of your life. You either do it or you don't. "Wanting" to do it doesn't count. I don't want to do my homework, but I do it because I want to graduate from college.

Do you study at all? It seems to me that if you have a 3.7 GPA that you must either know the material or are cheating on your tests.
