I don't know if they have a symbolic meaning, but they gave me nightmares for months!!

As far as I can tell, the 'monkeys' represent the 'rapture' of the
heir to the family business...Dorothy being that heir...they also respresent Dorothy's ongoing fears concerning the foreclosure
that is looming over the family's farm. These symbols are represented by the biblical 'Kittim' ideologies, and concern the onslaught of any would-be 'conquering peoples'. and are spoken of in the Dead Sea Scrolls in the 'Habakkuk Pescher'. I would highly recommend this documenrt to anyone seriously interested in symbology in literature, as this concerns the inevitable result of competitive strategy: "You can't win 'em all..."

I don't know, but I am irrationally scared of only 3 things: spiders, snakes, and those f***ing flying monkeys!
