The Texas lawmaker who went around the legislative process and mandated that all 6th-grade girls attending public school in the state be vaccinated with Gardisil has political ties to Merck, the company that makes the drug (they gave him money during his campaign), and to the state director of the political action group Women in Government (a top Merck official in the vaccine division sits on the board of this lobbying group).
In my opinion, Gardisil does not have a long enough track record to know whether it is safe. My physician says it's not a good idea to vaccinate my daughter until we know more about it. I think lawmakers being swayed by their pocketbooks is completely unethical. This guy is not being cautious enough with the health of our youngsters. And I have absolutely no religious reasons for objecting to the mandate. I just think that we need more data on the vaccine before I'd be willing to expose my child to it.

What you should do is check on the web site for your state. I had heard this was going to happen and when I mentioned it in here, everybody thought I was nuts. Now, unfortuantely seeing is believing.
I would write to the senator of your state, and to the governors office to see where they stand on this issue.
Hey, do you remember when they first came out with the Ad on TV for that. "Ohhh, cervical cancer caused by a virus...a virus!! I didn't know...Tell someone, tell someone..blah blah blah...another big DRUG COMPANY PUSH to make big bucks. Our kids do NOT need this crap unless they are sexually active, and they could even be making that up, too. All this government does is lie. I'm a consertative and I usually don't make fun of any candidates, but this is Hillary Clinton's idea. She's the one that gave it the extra shove.
It's sad to say, but how the He(( do we know what's in that vaccine. First, there isn't any cure for cervical cancer...now out of the blue, there it is...it's caused by a virus. Well, how convenient. Oh, and just FYI...the department of education found that it's mandatory to teach our childern about homosexuality in the schools as well. I had heard about these new manditory school books being written describing the homosexual relationship struggles and so forth. But there was another man in here complaining that his daughter was shown the film, "This is a Family" regarding the homosexual family lifestyle. The worst part is, she's only in 3rd grade and they didn't get permission from the parents for their child to view the film, first. This was also pushed by Hillary Clinton.
Don't get me wrong. If the educators want to include the famous people in the US who are homosexuals that's fine. Everyone should have their 15 minutes of fame. What I don't like is that special interest groups are having more to say than the parents and it's time everyone spoke up for their own good.
BTW, these new text books were decided on this past summer when the parents weren't looking...sneaking beind the back of mom and dad to push their own agenda. I my view, the entire planet has gone crazy.
I sure wish you the best of luck. I'd get a group of moms together and really pitch a &itch. The government, state or federal has no right making it mandatory for this drug, just like the morning after pill for teens. It just has not been proven safe for everyone because each person has a different reaction. I will say some prayers for all moms and dads. I'm just happy my grandchildren are not in school yet. Maybe the citizens can get those laws repealed. Forcing a 'drug' is not within the law because not everyone is vulnerable to the same things. As I said, they have no proof this will work for everyone...none. (Please excuse any typos. I just got home from work and I'm too tired for spell check).
One more thing I would like to inject...and I almost forgot. I'd get my hands on ALL and I mean ALL the studies they did with this vaccine. How will a family be assured that in the future it will not make their daughters sterile. That would be a good one to investigate. Funny how they sometimes forget to include that when pushing that hard and fast for something. We should all keep in mind how we've been lied to about soooo many things I just lost count. It's food for thought and for our own good.

In Canada we have a choice weather to get the vaccine or not.It is a terrible thing when children are forced to take a medication that all the data is not in on. What are the long term affects and who is the government anyway to tell you that for the privilege of attending school you must be a medical experiment. Also the virus that causes cervical cancer is not the only thing that causes this cancer and many woman get cervical cancer and have never had the H.P. Virus. With all the hype connected with this campaign it makes everybody think that you are a dirty promiscuous wh0re if you have cervical cancer. And that is far from the truth.

omfg. To correct all the incorrect statements in previous answers: They are *not* making it mandatory in Texas... the Governor tried to tie vaccination or opting-out to public school attendance, but the state House bonged it, and the state Senate is likely to do the same. New Hampshire may be another situation. There *is* a vaccine available that protects against the most dangerous strains of HPV (the ones that cause cervical cancer). It is called Gardasil. Other commercial vaccines should be on the market soon. It DOES NOT cause cervical cancer. It works to prevent it. Most of us already must get certain vaccines to attend school (I just recently had to update my tetanus booster to continue in grad school). This is exactly the same thing.

If it is effective its great.
I'm concerned because the drug manufacturer is leading the effort to make it mandatory.
If the drug company truly wants to make it a legal requirement to get the shot for the public benefit they should give the patent for the drug to the public and the profit of the mandatory shot would also benefit the public.

well if it saves a life and prevents the epidemic of promiscus sex with men of poor hygeine (if you keep clean, use condoms and don't go around like an assembly line, you don't need to be circumcised, my poor nephews got clipped as babies because my sister was obsessed with the issue). But if it saves their life, how could you be against it? Castrating the guy that spread it, with a brick, won't cure the cancer.

I don't think that parents will take it lying down.
To begin with, males are the carriers of the virus. What I think of the vaccine is that if you don't treat the carrier source, you are putting band-aids on the thing and will never cure it.
