This is really very thought full question for all those who have been propagating women's rights etc. I don't deny many of our women are not getting the right treatment they deserve but there are few who are using the marriage & divorce as instrument to extract money from innocent people. The govt of India is silent on this issue as these maybe only very few cases in the society, but no one can deny their existence. The courts deciding the divorce matters do X-ray such cases & give suitable relief to the victim husband when they see that the said wife has used taking divorce just to extract money & for that reason even filled false criminal complaints under sec 498A I.P.C., Anti-Dowry Act, Domestic Violence Act, etc. The honble Supreme Court of India had held in one of such cases this to be a fit ground for granting divorce to the husband as making of false criminal cases amounts to cruelty. If any person face such a situation & is being blackmailed by such a lady he should bring this to the knowledge of the whole society so that such a lady is taken to task by other members of society. I feel people power is the most strong in our democratic set up, as you must have seen in few of the recent cases in news, if people of India punish such person it will be best punishment for her.

See dont come to conclusion that all are of same type only. No one wants to spoil their life by taking divorce, or going to court roaming, 100s of people seeing and staring them what had happened, instead it looks very much embrassing position to be in front of judge and say bad against ur husband. There may be many reasons for being away but not all will be for extract of money.
Now a days harrasing is becoming more and more in present world. Every one is facing problems, some say and some dont. Every one is not applying for divorce. Only some are applying. Some may harass for dowry, some for jewellery, some for lands, some for property etc where there is no end for the wants they require. Due to these reasons only the wife is unable to share the views with the husband and openly talk what her views are because of inferiority complex in men.

There are many instances where the girls had sexual affairs but could not marry him for his unemployment, poverty, less education, low status etc. They married employed, rich, educated, high status person, to get divorce by extorting (extracting) huge amounts, with the cooperation of their parents/relatives. They filed false criminal cases, got arrested husband and his relatives, obtained monthly maintenance expenses from husband through court orders and compellted husband for divorce by paying demanded huge amounts in lumpsum, since even after divorce her husband alone is bound to maintain her till her remarriage or death. Later she starts living with that bf, mostly without marital relations, and both enjoy the wealth of her ex. However some (commonly known as fundamentalists or orthodox) unshakeably believe and have firm faith that a lady seeking divorce without reasonable and valid grounds will never enter the heaven. .. Most people do not accept such out dated ideology. ZAFARULLAH HYDERABAD INIDA PH: 9247173741

No. Lots easier ways to earn money than to get married, go through the whole thing with families, have a bad marriage, get divorced, again deal with the families only to maybe get some alimony! At least in the US you have to be married more than 10 years usually before the court will give you any serious alimony.

Well I guess, but I think that's definitely not the norm. Divorce can be painful and I think we can sometimes only see negative motives. If a couple is married and divorced, why shouldn't she get something out of it?Just b/c she's chosen to have another partner doesn't mean she's not entitled to a percentage of the assets they BOTH accrued while in marriage. I think men can get bitter and don't want their ex's to get any money b/c they want to punish them for leaving the relationship...

Some do....Not many..
Most men with any money and common sense have a good
pre-nup before marriage...
Too bad Paul McCartney was such a bozo and married Heather
"Gold Digger" Mills without a pre-nup...

I'd like to think not. I'd also like to think men don't do this either, but there is always nasty people out there that are that screwed up, they will even use their personal lives for money. As I understand it though, don't you have to be single (not-cohabiting) to receive alimony? You say "girls" implying youth. What ever happened to dreams of prince charming.??

I wouldn't doubt it. Sadly the system makes it too easy for this to happen these days. Always sign a prenup.
