Hassan is a Hazara boy, he has a hare lip...and he is the fastest kite runner...that means when someone is flying a kite and it gets cut off, the person to catch the kite is considered a winner of sorts...and Hassan had this keen sense of where the kite was going to land, so he went straight there.

Ali...hmm..he's physically deformed, a twisted leg and even his face is paralysed so you couldn't tell his expressions.

Amir's baba is rich and well known, he has lots of friends.

Amir and Baba belong to the higher class because they belonged to the majority group called the Pashtuns. They lived in a big house in a good neighbourhood.

Ali and Hassan are froma minority, and they are Shia muslims, and they are servants at baba's house. We know because Ali takes care of the house and garden, and Hassan takes care of Amir...irons his clothes, doesn't go to school etc. etc.

They're good friends as well as foster brothers (because they had the same wet nurse)...but its an unequal relationship, Hassan will do ANYTHING to please Amir but not vice-versa..
