Remove the grass and first layer of top soil. Lay a mat made to keep the dirt from working its way to the surface. Then dump a load of 57's on top. 57's with dust will bind together and create an excellent surface

If you cant find the mat you will wantseveral truckloads of #2 rocks (think pop can size) to sink into the dirt and make a solid base. After this base becomes solid lay the 57's

Either way you will want to rake and smooth out the 57's and drive back and forth on them to help flatten them

Decomposed Granite Driveway

Don't need to lay crusher dust base first. About 3 inches should do it, remember though the best driveways are rolled, gives a better finish (like a tennis court) and compaction makes it harder for the weeds to grow through.

While on the subject of weeds, spray with a weed killer before you lay the granite down, and you shouldn't have any growth though. People amuse me in regard to putting weed mat under everything. Most weeds if the area is treated before laying come from seeds blowing onto the top of the granite, how is weed mat going to help this? Good compaction is the answer. You have to expect weeds to grow in the granite as time progresses and some of the granite gets loose and friable. You can spray the whole driveway with a once a year weed killer and this stops the need for some weeding on too regular basis.

In regard to drainage, if your driveway is on any sort of slope you will need to put in surface drainage every so often to stop granite being washed away. Hope this helps.

Crushed Granite

I have crushed granite in my driveway. The only preparation is to level it out and then spread the rock. It is best to use 1/4" and under, and here is the bad news I get weeds sprouting up through 4" so my plan is to spray with weed killer and spread a full 6" of granit on my driveway - this will be very expensive.
You could level it out, spread weed-barrier cloth then put 1/2" of sand (so the rocks do not poke holes, then just put down 2" of granite.
The disadvantage to the barrier is that you will end up with a lot of puddling and water washing things away. This is why I want pure granite rain wil soak through and soak into the ground, no worry's about flooding

Mark where you want to put your driveway. Dig down about 1/2" & make it level. Lay down landscape fabric so you don't get weeds in your driveway. Then fill with crushed granite.

I'd think you'd have enough sense to google this but no point in saying that now, lol. Uh, I think 8 or more hours is the best but 5 hours is fine too, Minimum I would have to say is 6 but it really does depend on the person, since some people get by with just 3 hours of sleep. It depends on you, although I recommend at least 6 hours of sleep, I guess you could make up for it later.
