It is my view that Saddam was not given a fair trial at all. I am not against trying and sentencing him in the first place. But I would rather have suggested that it would have been better that he was tried at the Hague as was done to Slobodan and is being presently done to Charles Taylor of Liberia. There is no doubt that Saddam may have committed some crimes 'against humanity' as his accusers want the world to believe, but it is sad that the civilised world of our day left him for his accusers to try and kill. This is a bad precedent. It went foul of the principle of 'neminem judex in causa sua' meaning that no one can be a judge in his cause. I am rather suprised that those who aided the Iraqi Country to remove their dictator failed to see to it that the man had a fair trial in accord with modern dictates of justice. Afterall, I do not think Saddam was such a bad ruler as some sectors want us to believe. If he were, how come he ruled for such a long period even after the sanctions imposed by the UN?
On the issue of the timing of his execution, the people only exhibited their hypocrasy as far as their religion is concerned. It showed they do not respect the god they claim to serve by killing a man on the day their God was supposed to be worshipped, praised and be asked for forgiveness of their sins.

The trial was a stupid waste of time and money.
It was good for him to be hanged. The person who said it was wrong, was right because he deserved a more painfull death, for the benefit of other possible evil men who should learn to be afraid. But now Saddam is in hell.

I think it was a weaselly choice to force the new Iraqi government to do it. We should have had a WWII type trial. Like we did for the Germans and Japanese leaders that were executed after WWII and do the job ourselves.
It would have made it easier for the Iraqis to settle their differences if us, outsiders had dealth with Sadam.

It was good that Saddam was tried by his own people and executed by his own people. It helps to give legitimacy to their new government and legal system. Although it is a gruesome way to execute someone, it is no less than he deserves after the atrocities he and his son committed to their own people. Lest we forget, he used chemical weapons, torture chambers, death squads, etc.

It was good that he was declared guilty and hanged, but the way the hanging took place with him clutching the Quran I did not like

I think it was wrong to hang him. Even if he was a horrible man they shouldn't of killed him. It was one thing to kill him another to HANG him. That was cruel, nobody deserves that! No matter how evil they are!!!!!!!!
