Have you heard of Tom Chapin? He is Harry Chapin's brother (you might be too young to get the reference...) and he writes a lot of children's songs, some of which are about helping preserve the environment. He lives in the Hudson Valley (NY) and has written a great song about the Hudson River called "The Water that Flows Both Ways". Check his other earth-friendly titles like "The Wheel of the Water" , "Someone's Gonna Use It After You", and "Good Garbage"!

I met John Denver in the 1970's, and yes he did glorify and sing the praises of our beautiful state of Colorado but that boy was as crafty and business oriented as a fox...not to say he was a fake. Just that he was a shrewd businessman.
an environmentalist??? that's a bit of a stretch...more in your imagination than in reality........
we have a beautiful country...I recently returned from 10 months in Europe and while the culture is different, we have all been blessed with natural beauty if we could only appreciate it....

Dramarama (80s band) did a song called "What Are We Gonna Do?" in the early 90s, about Earth Day. Only environment/Earth Day song I can think of.

I saw Tom Chapin years ago. He opened for Bob Seager. He sang Cat's in the Cradle in memory of his brother.

although a different type of music, i noticed that a lot of the heavy metal groups that were popular when i was a kid and still are (metallica, mega deth, ozzy etc.) had numerous songs about nuclear holocaust or deth to mankind, as a result not of thier love of the earth but as aresult of thier outragebecause of what was being and is still being done to it.
