Since Nash is surrounded by All-star talent and big-name superstars and Dirk apparently is not, does this mean he should be the MVP?

This is not my argument for Dirk to be MVP. I honestly think it should be Kobe. I just can't stand it when people say he can't win MVP because he has too much talent around him then don't give the players the credit during all-star and all-nba team selctions. When Nash was here, he was never a "lock". I always thought he was way underrated. Now he's in Phoenix and I'm like "well, duh". I just don't understand what it is that the NBA, the media, and the coaches don't want to ever reward Mavs players when they so clearly deserve it, as some have pointed out.

Dirk makes it look easy that people often take his numbers for granite. He has been putting up the same great numbers year after year just like Marion does and they both get over looked by the writers and media come MVP time.
Should he be MVP? I really wouldn't have a problem with him winning it. However I do feel that Gilbet Arenas deserves it this year.
At this point I would give it to both of them over Nash, that's for sure.

I think that Dirk should be this year's mvp. He has guided his team to the nba finals something Nash has yet to do. Giving Nash three rings would put him in exclusive company, but all those other guys have rings. Kobe on the other hand is the best player in the nba, but his team's record doesn't say much. If i had to chose an mvp, i would go with Dirk, maybe Wade, if his team improves and gains home court advantage during the playoffs, but i dont see that happening.

In this case, I don't think that's entirely true this season.
Nash may have some all-stars around him, but check out their production when he's not playing. The Suns are not a great team without Nash.
Now it's also true that Dallas needs Nowitzki. He'd make any team awesome. But Josh Howard has been playing really well this year. And veterans Stackhouse and Terry add stability. When Nowitzki missed a few games, Dallas could still win.
Both teams have also had recent coaches of the year.
But I don't think we should undervalue Kobe this year. His scoring is down, as are his shots taken, but his assists are up, and so are their wins. (the most important number) Given your original argument of who you're surrounded by, then Kobe should be in the running.
But my favorite for the league's MVP this year is last year's Finals MVP: D-Wade
Look at his individual numbers. Look at his assists, and how he gets his teammates their shots. Look how his team relies on him. Look at their wins/losses when he's playing and when he's not. Look at the attention he draws from the opposing team. Look at how he takes over games, and wills them to come-from-behind victories. He makes clutch free-throws and clutch shots. Shaq just said today that they are going to ride him all the way.

At this point in the season, it is hard to predict the most valuable player. I think that Dirk is the most valuable player on his team. I think the most valuable player should go to Gilbert Arenas as of the midway point in the NBA season. Arenas is just unstopplable right now. He handles the ball for his team 75% of the time they are on offense. He is like an option quarterback in football. If Arenas isn't on the Wizards, that team would not even be in playoff contention, yet they are the conference leaders. Dirk on the other hand has led his team to the top of the West, but without him, the Mavs are still a playoff team. I think its definitely Arenas by far.

NO.
Take Dirk out of Dallas and they still the favorite to win games every night. Take Nash out of Phoenix, and they still the favorite.
Take Lebron out, and I don't think they can win against the Celtics or Hawks. My vote goes to Lebron even his team don't have enough wins to show for.
Kobe and Arenas are my second liner after King James.

I agree. Dirk carries the burden for the Mavs. Nash has an all-star squad supporting him.

dirk has an awesome supporting cast, first of all, and yes, he is an MVP caliber player who scores, passes, and rebounds. plus, he is the league's hardest worker and his own toughest critic. he leads his team and is hungry for a championship. just because he doesn't have to drop 40 for his team to win doesn't mean he doesn't deserve the MVP title.

No. I think Dirk has a pretty impressive cast around him too, some of his teammates are underrated, like Devin Harris.
