FOIL's no problem. Just make sure each number in the first parenthesis is multiplied by each in the second parenthesis. :)

(x+2y)(2x+3y). x(2x) + 2y(2x) + x(3y) + 2y(3y) = 2x^2 + 4xy + 3xy + 6y^2 = 2x^2 + 7xy + 6y^2.

Doesn't matter what letters you use as far as the fourth ones go. For sake of time I'll let you figure out the other three with this example, then you can pass the quiz too! (Without cheating ;) )

what you have to do is multiplty each of the variables in the first set of parenthesis by each of the second...

(x + 2y) (2x + 3y)

take the x and multiply it by both 2x and 3y which =
2x^2 + 3xy

then take 2y and multiply it by both 2x and 3y which =
4xy + 6y^2

then you have to add them all together which =
2x^2 + 3xy + 4xy + 6y^2 which =
2x^2 + 7xy + 6y^2

in your second problem = a positive times a negative = a negative
a negative times a negative = a positive.

i hope i was helpful
