You can do a paid search in which you could actually pay to have your website placed at the top. This works by a pay per click system. The search engine will determine how much you would need to pay to get a particular placement (eg. number 1) using the keyword you specify and every time somebody clicks on your link you pay the search engine.
OR you could actually buy search engine optimization. this is a product that will allow you to set up your websites key words and meta tags properly to help you get better results and SEO type products will actually automatically submit your site to the search engines. When a new website is created it takes 8-12 weeks just for the search engines to know its there and it will place it at the bottom and if its not optimized properly your site will never gain ranks. If you want to check search engine optimization out go to www.register.com
also another thing to remember is with SEO it can take a while to get results you do have to be patient (this is if you don't want to pay to have somebody click on your site every time lol)
also another thing that will help get better placement is longer term registration on your domain name. lots of scam sites register their domain for 1 year and when they are caught they let go of the site. so any domain that is registered for under three years is placed very low on the search engines.

Most search engines nowadays work on popularity. The more popular a site is, the higher up the list it will be. If you are only getting 50 or 100 hits a month then you aren't likely to get to the top. Some search engines take into account how many other pages link to your site. It is therefore a good idea to get your website address spread about the internet a bit. Try looking for websites that offer classified ads or something. Also, there is a website somewhere that allows users to post quotes for building works so that others can get an idea of how much things cost. I don't know whether or not that one has a classified section and unfortunately can't remember the address.

The more commonly-searched words you have/use in your website, the more likely you'll get your website onto the top of the search engines. The reason is that the more commonly-searched words you use in your website, your website will be more likely to match other people's search.
Your website will still pop up if you have many matched words, even if the content is not really related to the searched phrase.
That's why a lot of companies pay search engine companies to obtain the list of commonly-searched words/phrases, to update their own websites daily.
I listed some free websites that shows some popular words/phrases for the time. Hope this will help.

Ever hear of the google bomb? Well for an example type in failure at google. What's the first thing that shows up? George W Bush.
Edit: well this was a while ago so I guess the people removed the link. If you scroll down it proves it though.
They do this by simply having a bunch of people link to the site and have the link say failure. So say you want people who type for pie have it come up as yours. Have a bunch of people paste this on their site Put what you want people to type here Or something like that. I'm pretty sure thats right.
