Learning is an ongoing process that lasts a lifetime. We do research to stay updated with new concepts because all aspects of education change from day to day. New things are being added to the history books every day and mathematical computations also change. We do research for other things as well such as the new fashions, trends, music, movies, TV shows you name it. I would be really scared if a teacher didn't do research. Research is very important in order to maintain a fresh outlook on the material and current events.

We are learning so much about how students learn and should implement what we know into the classroom. We also need to discuss our findings with other teachers.
I graduated from high school in 1981 and went back to get my degree in 1991. In just those 10 years there has been a tremendous change in how mathematics is taught. Without those changes, I would not have been successful. I was given a gift D- in algebra because they figured I would never get it. I now teach algebra using the new teaching techniques.

Times are ever-changing. Teachers need to do research to stay up-to-date with the world. Teachers need to be knowledgable about what they are teaching their students. Teachers also need to do research to keep informed of how to reach students, approaches to take in the classroom, discipline solutions, etc. I love to read and research educational journals to help me stay current.

Learning is a continous process so teachers need to learn also. beside that it is the teachers noble task to contribute to the known knowledge. research also allows the teacher to see my themselves if the theories or knowledge they are teaching their students are indeed correct or if it is still valid in the modern time or in their place.

Teaching is an art and the best teacher is one who learns 100% and doing permutation & combination increases his knowledge and teaches 200% to the students . For this he has to take an effort or learning by himself more things which are not taught to him and this we call it as research. Hope this clears your doubt.
