The first answer hit it right on the head. Unfortunately this happened so long ago that most people (besides those with a direct connection to Tibet) have given up hope that China will do the right thing and free Tibet. Very unfortunate, but that's reality. I don't think it has anything to do with oil, though if they did have oil it would probably make it even less likely that China would give up its claims to Tibet.

The Chinese invasion of Tibet took place fifty years ago, and it is generally accepted that Tibet is part of that country. More importantly than oil, China possesses the world's largest standing army, including nuclear weapons. No one wishes to start a war with such a giant.
Go back to the Cold War. You'll find plenty of hawks who wanted to start wars with both the PRC and the USSR. Thank God we're past that!

China can do what they want with Tibet and the World won't lift they're little finger. Everyone wants good relations with China, so too bad Tibet. Sad but true.

Exactly. War is an extension of business--it's all about the economy. Why should we fight in Darfur, for example? It has nothing to do with your pampered way of life. However, let Iran control our sources of oil and I'll bet liberals will start screaming for American imperialism then.

some do and i am one of them. china needs to correct that mistake, get out, apologize and let them be once and for all. china was being a big spoiled brat when it did that and did not act like an adult who has grown to not behave that way. im putting it mildly of course. FREE TIBET!!!!!!!!

Because hollywood has to work on the next Schindlers list or the Holocaust memorial. Current atrocities dont deserve our attention as much as the ones 60 years ago.

Well, I would say there is sort of a statute of limitations on moral outrage. It happened more than a half century ago. I can't get too fired up about Quemoy and Matsu, either.

I think it is because we are currying favor with China, or because we fear China. In any event, it is wrong that we don't speak out about it!
