Companies will not hire under 21. Insurance and statistics drive the bsns. Your 25, the issue finding a company you wish to drive for. There's two methods to enter the industry. 1) Pay for it and get it from a 4-6 week course (about 4K) or head to a company that will train you. There's a catch to this last one, upon completion, your expected by contract to work for a year, with not much pay. All companies if you pay for your own school will reimburse you for your loan as long as you for them. The good thing is, if your not being treated fairly, consistent running, or not getting home when you ask...your free to move to another company. 1 yr is a general time frame before the better companies will pick up new drivers. You will not understand my words, except when your into driving after your trainer, so "PROTECT YOUR CDL ALL THE TIMES" bad weather? stop!, out of hrs? Stop! Spent all day waiting for a load, and your 14 of hrs of duty is almost up, get the load and go to bed. There's intense pressure but protect that CDL at all costs. No one will admit to pushing you if you have an accident and your not suppose to be driving.

There are very few long haul trucking companies that will hire a driver under the age of 23, so how long you've had a license doesn't make a difference.

you can get a real bonafide class A license the minute you pass the written test and the road test, and the pretrip inspection test,21 years old I believe is the start you can get a class 1.of course real experience makes you a driver,I wasn't completely confident until after my first year, and at 8 years driving,2 OTR 6 local in L.A. and Vegas, you still learn something new everyday

I think you can take a course when you're quite young but like mamabear1 said it's hard to get a job longhaul untill your early to mid twenties so you might need to drive a gravel truck or something before you can become "Billy big rigger" and ride off into the sunset.
