alot of diffrent stories behind this...i talked to my friend from the ghetto and he said theres two diffrent meanings. 1 a drug house is nearby, 2 someone got beaten up on that spot 3 someone died on that spot or the ever crazy one someone got robbed on that spot. "tiny" says it varies with the neighborhood

I think people place the shoes of someone who dies on telephone wires, I believe it is a tradition that started in urban areas.

Kids have been doing this as long as there have been wires strung between poles. It has nothing to do with drugs. The shoes usually appear just after school is out.

If you see boots hanging on wires near military bases, it means they belonged to a soldier who just got out. My husband is in the Marine Corps, and at one point, there was a wire near one of the gates to the base that had about thirty pairs of boots hanging on it.

I know Wendy is right about the military bases. I have seen combat boots on wires from Fort Stewart Geargia to Fort Irwin California -- all for ETS... termination of service.
