unless you are so very overweight and cannot wait till you wean your baby, i would hold off until you stop nursing your baby. right now, you can control some of the foods you eat but you need all the protein and dairy products for your baby.

you can control the fats and carbohydrates you take in and take more vegetables and fruits. continue with the meats but grill or bake them so you avoid the fats. in between meals, have some fruits, celery or carrots to munch on. this way, you will lose slowly and not let it affect your milk production. your breast will still stay large even if you lose a little weight.

eat a salad before you start your meal so that will fill you up and then have a sensible meal but make sure you eat a balanced diet. if you just had a baby, it normally takes 4 to 6 months for your uterus to go back to its normal size but nursing your baby will even make it contract faster.

When nursing you need to take in an ADDITIONAL 1500 calories above your normal intake to keep producing enough milk for your little one. Walk if you can, and breastfeeding itself will aid in losing some weight by shrinking your uterus more quickly. Don't worry about losing weight until your done nursing. I learned the hard way and I stopped producing milk at four months, I will not make the same mistake with this baby. Good Luck

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

I am a nursing mother of a four month old. I spoke to my doctor about how to lose weight and still nurse. She told me to make sure I eat healthy foods,(fresh fruits and veggies, baked not fried meats, egg whites-no yolk, yogurt, whole grain/wheat bread, etc.) stay away from soda, (even diet soda) drink lots of water and to get lots of exercise. You need to take in between 1500 and 1800 calories a day while nursing.
There are alot of exercises you can do with your baby too! Lay on your back, pull your legs up with knees bent, lay baby on your shins and raise legs up and down, this works your legs and my son loves it. Lay down and hold baby straight up in the air, bring the baby down to your face and back up again, my son loves this because I make faces at him while bringing him towards my face, he has lots of fun and I get an arm workout. Again lay on your back place your baby on your lower tummy, bring your knees up with feet on floor, push into your heels and raise your mid section off the floor (make sure to hold onto the baby) until just your shoulders are on the floor, then lower yourself back down, your legs, back, butt and abs get a workout from this one.Dance with your baby, great exercise for you and lots of fun for your baby. With these exercises the baby is your weights, you get the exercise you need and your attention is not taken away from your baby. Be creative, make up your own exercises and you and your baby will have lots of fun with it.
I breastfed my daughter for 2 years and lost weight by doing this. I was healthy and she had plenty of breastmilk.

If you live in an area where it isn't too cold, take your baby out for long walks. It will be good for both of you.
