I just discovered a knot on my right breast. It's pretty painful, but the other one is just fine. I am only 14, could I have breast cancer? I need symptoms and everything. Please help.

Ok, it's not a bump, it's a lump, inside, i feel it, and it's nothing to do with my period.

Oh and I just drink diet coke, water, and milk, no caffiene, and I eat pretty healthy, although I consume lots of asparetame from the diet coke.

Most breast cancers are not painful, so it is unlikely that this is cancer. It is more likely to be inflamed tissue or a benign cyst. Nevertheless, you should have it checked out. It is almost certainly nothing to worry about, but your doctor can treat what is causing this and put your fears to rest.

First of all, it is pretty common for females that have begun to menstrate to get bumps or knots in our breast. It happens most often around the time of our period and usually goes back to normal when our period is over. Females often get what are called cysts, which are typically benign or harmless. These can go away as well. Since you are experiencing pain... best thing to do is go see your ob/gyn who will examine and do further test if need be. I'm not a doctor but I am a woman... unless you have a good reason to believe that it's cancer, i.e. a formal diagnosis and family history... you probably have nothing to worry about. It's good practice to do self-examinations and report any changes to your doctor. Good luck.

At 14, the chances of it being cancer are extremely slim. If your mother or sister has had breast cancer, you can maybe schedule a mammogram. But at your age, the breast tissue is dense and very hard to read. If you have no close family history of cancer, I wouldn't worry. Hormones in teen girls can cause all kinds of weird things to happen. Just make an appointment with your doctor and tell her you have the lump.

Do you drink a lot of caffeine? or eat a lot of chocolate? This could be your problem. Breast cancer normally isn't painful. You can look it up on web.MD and make a doctors appointment to have it checked. I use to have them and I stop drinking tea, and pop, I do drink a cup of coffee now and then but I end up with a painful breast every once and a while. But I do have breast exams and I have my mammograms done every year. I also exam myself they teach you how at many web sites or doctors office. Just make an appointment with your doctor and they can inform you of everything you need to know. Breast Cancer Awareness has a program also. Don't worry it will be OK

Breast cancer at your age would be a rarity indeed. Cancer usually isn't at all painful in the early stages so you have something else. Maybe a bug bite or a cyst that will resolve itself. Try hot packs and tylenol and if it keeps getting worse then see a doctor.

Get it checked out - I have heard that if something hurts in your breast, it is just an inflamed nodule, not cancer. It is what you do not expect that is cancer. Sometimes your menstrual cycle can affect it. Talk to your doctor and it needed, have a mammogram.

I agree with everyone to go to the doctor 'just to be sure' but I believe it is mostly hormone related. Is this the week before or week of your period??? If so that would definitely cause breast pain.

it might just be a cyst or something i used to get them i think anyone at any age can have cancer but i don't think that is what it is if you are worried go to the doctor or call the doctor and ask them about it they will understand why you are being careful and feeling stupid or embarrassed is alot better than being worried isn't it

You need to talk to your mom about it. I doubt though it's breast cancer at your age. You also could have fibroids...

Urgh, just talk to your mom and have her take you to the doctor. You can't mess around with medical stuff.

If it's painful, it's highly unlikely that it's cancer. But you need to see a doctor IMMEDIATELY to be sure. Talk to your mom.
