try pushing the center button and the top of the circle at the same time (hold them down together) this is supposed to reset ipods. If not go on the ipod website and ask for their support. Godd luck!

1. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. 2. Press and hold the following combination of buttons buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod. iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause" iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select" Shuffle: Turn it off, turn it on. Done. If you have an iPod Mini or 4th gen iPod or higher, then you need to press the Menu and Select buttons, not the Menu and Play button, to restart. The Select button is the center button in the middle of the wheel. Upon reset, your will see the iPod name and the Apple logo. You may have to attach your power plug in your iPod to make this work. Your iPod should mount on your computer now. If not, keep reading. 3. The iPod name and the Apple logo will briefly appear upon a successful restart before advancing to the Main Menu.

You need to reset it, to do this you need to slide the lock switch on the top to the lock position and then switch it back (to unlocked) then press and hold the center button and the bottom button at the same time for about 10 seconds or until the ipod shuts off.

my friends nano froze hold down the menu button and the select button (the one in the middle) fornot even a minute and it will come back on, but it restarts your ipod so you'll have to readjust the time, your music will still be there

according to apple
1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Leave it be, my friend's ipod nano did that once, and he just waited until it went back to normal, takes awhile to unfreeze.

HOLY CRAP THAT HAPPENED TO ME!!! i think. is it like the button lock switch is on, but when you switch it back and forth, the only difference it makes is that little lock symbol goes on and off? ... i just took it to get it replaced.
