Watch the eyes. If someone is lying to you, they will not make eye contact with you. Then while they are telling the lie, they usually look to the left. Also deliberate avoidance is a clue. If the person chokes on their words, they may be lying to you and trying to say a million things at once to cover themselves. If you are talking to someone and they are open to tell you everything but the truth, ask questions. Eventually they will slip. Also watch out for the Freudian slips. Those are when someone reveals something hidden in their sub-conscience by accident. Like a husband calling his wife by his secret lover's name. Just remember that if the person you think is lying to you is being defensive, that doesn't mean they are lying.

Don't bother. If you don't believe someone then you don't believe them.

Sometimes people lie for their own reasons. Sometimes they lie because they're pathological liars. If someone had a reason to lie just don't believe them and assume their reason was reasonable to them. If they're pathological liars you already know it and don't need to catch them.

If its your child, let him know you're not able to believe what he has told you; but then give him a break. He's kid. Kids lie for a number of "kid reasons". Most often when normal kids lie they feel pretty rotten about it already.

Most often people who feel compelled to catch a liar are more concerned with their pride and not being seen as gullible enough to have bought a lie. Be secure and let it go.

If you can't trust the person ever again, so be it.

Listen to what they say. Many times sories can get mixed up, talk to mutual firends and see if the stories match. Also, sometimes when people lie they may get more fidigity and do a certian behavior, such as tug on their ear lobe.
