I enjoyed Little Miss Sunshine. Otherwise, I try not to think of them much.

Love them. They are fun, exciting, give awesome opportunities and often great prizes.
They help boost confidence...not only stage presence but public speaking!
They give you a reason to be proud of yourself for who you are, and when you win, the ability to be taken more seriously when promoting your cause!
Unfortunately, most people who bash pageants would never have a chance at competing because they are typically very unattractive, untalented and don't believe in themselves. Sounds mean, yes, but so true. Some will even lie and say they did pageants but hate them...I'm sorry but if they did pageants, they would know what its all about and wouldn't have anything bad to say. Ya, some directors are psycho but the overall system isn't at all bad.
Before making a judgment, experience what the pageant phenomenon is all about. See with your own eyes before letting biased parties make the decision for you!

pageants are the same as the pieces of meat hanging in the butchers window. There for others to gawk at.

My daughter was in a few beauty pageants I think they are ok if you don't go overboard & take them too seriously.
