I have had it in the shop twice and spent almost $400.00 and it lost power leaving the shop. They said they can't figure out what is wrong,they cleaned and adjusted the fuel mixture, replaced some fuses and put in a new Overvoltage Control. I still have the problem. We went for a test drive and of course it didn't happen when he was in the car. I took it home and I am afraid to drive it. It just looses power and doesn't stall out but the car hardly moves I could get out and walk faster than the car.Then after 30 seconds or so it runs fine. The car is very solid and clean, it was from Texas originaly I am in Cleveland, Ohio, I love to drive it but I am afraid to pull out in a intersection and have the car loose power, can anyone help me. Thank you

I would say you have an electrical problem.. You ECU is getting a bad or maybe no signal from something and is going into what I call limp home mode. You loose all power but the engine continues to run.

I would have them check your Accelerator pedal position sensor. Chances are it is on the blink. It is mounted on top of the intake manifold towards the back of the engine. All the throttle linkages go to it. Mabye vibration or heat make it act up.

Next check would be the Camshaft position sensor. With a faulty one the car will still run, just run bad. IF it were the crankshaft position sensor the car would shut off.

Good luck

A few days ago I was telling someone in this forum (you may have seen my answer) who had a similar problem:

" I'm wondering if it has to do with any or a combination of your engine's idle setting, fuel richness setting and sparkplug timing. Its possible that some or all of these may need to be "raised" or "increased". I can't be too sure about that because you mentioned taking it to the dealership without the problem being solved. Have you tried pulling your gear selector from "D" to "3" or "2 (for steeper hills with slow traffic)" when going downhill? If you do this just before before going over the edge of the hill, I know it will change down the gear from 4th to 3rd thereby forcing the engine to rev a little higher. This should eliminate the low revs which -possibly- could be associated with the "uncommanded" shutdown. I don't expect this method to eliminate your porblem but it just might prevent the shutdown when going downhill.
My Source(s):
I never experienced this phenomenon when I had my 1984 190E (autobgear). However, on one particular trip I was doing 140 km/h on a stariaght and when I spotted a junction way ahead, I decided to coast my way to the junction: I let off the throttle then shifted from "D" to "N" and immediately the revs plunged and the engine went off. I waited until I got to the junction, stopped (traffic check) and restarted. Thats the only time I had an uncommanded shutdown. I guess you know how to reach me on Yahoo if you need to talk about this further. Good luck & cheers".

Well I have a 85' 300e and once I got the same problem, what my mechanic told me was to take out the injector and clean it, then also change all the spark plugs and check the cables. Sounds that it is electric problem rather than fuel mixture problem because it happens on low gears and not on high gears (am I right?). Also you can check the O2 intake, sometimes this can be an issue.

i own a repair shop,and from what you have said about it id say it might need the fuel filter checked or changed on it this will cause this to happen,and if the pump is getting weak on it it will cause this also,the shop you had it at ,should have been able to find it,id take it back and see if they might look at it again,they missed something on it that's for sure ,good luck hope this help,s.

Check your filter and fuel pumps conections.You should have 2 fuel pumps on the frame. You can afro to one pump,using a high volume racing pump(holley). No use paying $200 for a German one.
