I wasn't motivated. I went to college because that's what people from my high school did - anyone that didn't go to college was pretty much a disappointment to the community. I, and many others from my class, eventually dropped out of college and got jobs. Some of them aren't doing too well now, which is good retrospective motivation, but I'm doing fine and much prefer the working life to the college life.

I decided to become a college student when I checked my family background. I can count on one hand the amount of people with a degree higher than a high school diploma. I also did research and found out that college graduates earn more than those that didn't get a chance to attend college. With that info, I decided I should give it a shop because just thinking about living paycheck to paycheck...is no fun at all.

You have to pick up the pace because if you do not get into law school or other graduate school when you graduate, you will find a poli sci degree is otherwise of little value in the job market. If this does not motivate you then you may want to change to a different major where you can be better motivated.

I'm working part time right now for $8 an hour. When I worked fulltime for the same amount of money I did the math, I wouldn't be able to afford anything on my own (car insurance bills, rent, electricity, groceries, gas, etc.)
I want enough money to work at more than a entering-class job, I want to be able to get a job that I enjoy and that pays me well enough to pay the bills (and afford a few luxuries).

Originally, I didn't know there were any other options. It was understood in my house that once you graduated from HS you went to college. Although my father stressed college, he never prepared me for it, so I don't think I picked the best college for myself. After I completed my undergrad, I continued on to receive my Master's and am now working on my PhD. I would have to say that my motivation is my desire for a better life and to be able to take care of myself. As a child, I saw how my mother's limited education prevented her from living her best life and I swore that I would always be able to take care of myself financially and emotionally. Education was my way to achieve that goal.

My dad did nuclear research. I spent my growing up years around scientists. It was simply assumed I was going to college.
Later on, a few years into the job market I decided I didn't like electrical engineering and decided to switch to computers. That term in college was so I could do something I liked.

In my family not going to college is not an option. My mother is an attorney and my dad was an accountant and business owner. Everyone in my family goes to college. To do what I want to do and make good money doing it, a college degree is required.

Very limited in my job choices. I wanted to be in management, but needed a degree to leave the supervision or lower level manager area that years of experience got me. I saw people right out of college starting higher than me with little job experience and it was tought to tolerate.

I didn't want to be stuck with a low paying mindless job for the rest of my life. So, I decided to get an education and pick something that I would love doing.
