I don't want to pay and get ripped off for labor at any establishment like Jiffy Lube or Wal-Mart. Can anyone advise me on how to install it myself?

i own a shop,and you can buy the filter any where you want to and its easy to install ,all you do is remove the cover for it and take out the old one ,and install the new one ,pretty simple thing to do,good luck i hope this help,s.

Easy to install, By your question you seem to not know where it is located. There is a big air intake hose at the top of your engine just follow it to a box that is where it's at,A lot of these boxes today are held on by clips,just take the clips off and the front of the box will come off sometimes it slides up.change it then put it back together the same way.If it's not held together by clips it just has a few screws in it.
Don't let the sales person talk you in to buying one of the washable kind that cost about $30.00 there a pain to clean,Get the through away kind there only about $6.00 and you only need to change them once a year.

i am thinking about your question,
my understanding is You have never seen a air filter and don't know it location.
i put my self in bottom of the ocean and some one asking me Where is north.? geee I would not know. (and it doesn't matter how much You explain it to me)
My best advice is :You have to(must?) buy a service manual of the car .

locate air filter box somewhere inbetween the cold air intake and the carburetor.
open box
take out old filter
put new filter in
close box
use drivers manual if you still need help

unscrew the airbox clamshells and remove the filter...replace with the new one...i believe that the screws are phillips....
