(it's a 3.33 GHz Intel Celeron machine with 120 Meg HD, 512 M RAM and windows Vista Home edition.

I would never buy another Emachine! Custom built is best, and often less expensive. Remember, you get what you pay for. I had my own Emachine, and the school I used to work for purchased 30 or so Emachines to be set up in the PC Lab...within 8 months, every single CD-Rom had to be replaced, the monitors had to be replaced, the memory could only be expanded so far...and the onboard video cards all crashed...constantly. We eventually had to pay the extra bucks to replace them with HP's. They were unstable and unreliable over time. I still have mine, but I can't use it, since it is not upgradable (I have taken it as far as it can go). With custom built computers, you can get what you want to put in it...and upgrade it whenever you can afford to.

It will be OK for basic stuff like, email and Internet but, don't go thinking that games are going to be able to run on this. A modern PC these days use up memory like nothing; security software and anti virus can take a tremendous hold on your ram. 512 megs of ram on windows vista.... yikes... look out...512 is the minimum requirements, meaning it will run, but very slow. Come up with a list of programs that you commonly use, add up the memory requirements and pursue a PC with those specs.

P.S. The one above me is right, everything is proprietary making it a pain to upgrade.

I have owned an emachine for over three years and am still really happy with it. The only thing that went wrong was the CDRW drive broke and I replaced it, but that was after 2 years of use, not bad. It really is good value for money. I have owned all other sorts of computers over the years, but this one is really reliable. Chow

.
Believe it or not WalMart stands behind all of its products.
Their vendors get angry with them because they DEMAND higher quality in their WalMart brand
than other distributors.
I've heard this before. I believe it.

Someone I know well works for a pasta distributor. They informed me that ALL PASTA is the same, except the boxes they put it in;
with the exception of Walmart > they demand that the pasta that will get their name must be several points higher in quality grade.

As I understand Walmart does this on all their products.
That is why I feed my dog the Walmart version of Purina One.

So, I suggest that you feel safe in purchasing Walmart's product. Just make sure that the specs are what you need for your pc activity. If you are gaming, you will want higher grade video and graphics cards, and processor.
Do your homework before you buy.

Talk to a computer sales person about what you want your pc to do for you, and they will advise you as to what you want inside.

I was just looking at that same computer it is very tempting. Think I am going to get one. My Girl friend has one and she hasn't had to many problems. Course hers is last years model so this one is much better. Plus if you don't like it you can take it back. Keep your receipt and all the boxes and paperwork. lol

My only complaint would be a Celeron processor. But then I'm not a fan of Intel. Try looking at http://tigerdirect.com if you are thinking of e-machines.

This is not a very reliable brand.
I would go with an HP or Dell instead.

emachines are know as throwaway machines. There is no room for upgrade, and everything is proprietary. They are a good deal, but if you ever want to upgrade anything, you will be buying another one.
