I'm not sure if your a Christian or not but in Genesis it says that God made Adam and Eve and that's kind of why they're are girls and boys. Adam wanted a partner because he saw lions, elephants, and monkeys etc. well he saw that they all had mates so he wanted one too. God gave him a mate which is Eve. That's why I think they're are boys and girls. Sorry if this didn't help.

Well, to put it in a simple way, it is because of the spliting of cells in meiosis. There are two kinds of sperms produce, X and Y. However there is only a kind of ovum, X
When the X meets with the ovum which is an X it becomes a girl. When Y sperm meets with X ovum, it will be a boy.

I hope this helps.

Nature designed each species for ONE reason, to preserve that species. In order to do that there needs to be reproduction. With simple lifeforms that can be done with asexual reproduction (budding, cloning, etc). There are some problems with mutation and adaptation, so nature developed sexual reproduction where you have both a male and femaleof the species. (Yes this holds true of many plants as well as animals). By providing two sets of genes, many genetic problems can be moved around and the species has a better chance of survival.

Why is there sex and two different sexes in humans? There are two complimentary theories. That genetic recombination of two sexes keeps a high level of genetic variation in a population, thus avoiding deleterious mutational build-up. The other theory states that sex is designed to keep us one step ahead of our parasites, by constantly changing the " genetic locks ", so the parasites are hard pressed to keep up evolving new " keys " to open those " locks ". This is called " the red queen " theory. As you can see they are complimentary.
