I do know that engine.

however,when a diesel engine throw black smoke,there are several reasons.
the most important, lack of air(oxygen) fresh air.
so, You need to check upon the:
air filter
restricted intake manifold.
stuck open EGR valve.
bad timing.(engine timing)
bad timing(injectors timing)
open turbo waste gate.
broken turbo
clogged after cooler.
leaking intake manifold.

as You can see ,I am only talking about lack of air pressure in the intake manifold.

Diesel engines in general generate black smoke. More smoke if the turbocharger is burned up.

diesel duetz huh, white smoke is fuel, black smoke look for oil burning
what is this vehicle by the way? im only familiar with duetz engines on pavement rollers, not on vehicles, sorry.
