Depends on the type of screw fastener. We really need to know the type of screw. If a Phillips or X. First try a different screw driver - a better quality Newer Screw driver with good pressure at a 90 degree angle may work. If you have access to the outside of the screw a Vice Grip will do the trick. Extractors are a last resort if the screw head is large enough. If no file is available, a sharp utlility knife worked carefully may also cut you a new groove. Be Careful if trying this! If a box of different screw tips is available - Often trying another type of tip will do the trick. (star shaped, or a larger or smaller drill bit tip) Wishing You Success!

Two ways. They make a bit now that will "bite" a screw that has been rounded out. Or drill the screw out. Take a drill bit one or two sizes smaller and drill out the head a guts of the screw. Then back out the rest of the screw with a pair of needle nose pliers

Sounds like you have a Spanner Head security screw. There are tools available to remove these screws. Look on www.fastenal.com to see if they list it there, if not, look up your local branch and call them. If you have any problems with you local branch, e-mail me and I will see that you are taken care of. I have been in the business for many years and I am the General Manager of a branch in Florida.

You are not looking at a screw. You are looking at a Pop Rivet that is not intended to be removed very often.
To remove a pop rivet get a drill slightly larger than the hole in the rivet and drill thru. The rivet will fall off.
To reassemble, get a pop rivet and pop rivet gun and reinstall it. Get that at HomeDepot.

that sounds like it was originally a phillips screw thats been stripped.you,ll need a screw extractor that you put unto a drill and that should work.there,s no such thing as a round screw driver or screw.
